Top 20 Iconic Moments in Sci-Fi Films

11. Luke Casts Away the Dark Side (Return of the Jedi, 1983)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRY5dl_oxvo Luke Skywalker is faced with a choice. Embrace the power of the Dark Side, kill his father, Darth Vader, and possibly kill the Emperor, or sacrifice his own life and turn away from the Dark Side. Luke makes the right choice, throwing away his lightsaber and refusing to go along with the Emperor€™s plan. This almost costs him his life, but in the end, Vader sacrifices himself to save Luke and destroy the Emperor. This ends with Vader truly reverting back to Anakin Skywalker and looking upon his son with his own eyes. It€™s an amazing scene and it€™s the payoff for all three of the original films. It€™s so vital and important to the hero€™s journey that it frankly makes the destruction of the second Death Star look like an afterthought.

10. The First Real Dinosaur Shot (Jurassic Park, 1993)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJlmYh27MHg Audiences had wondered for a long time just how the dinosaurs would look in this adaptation of Michael Crichton€™s novel. Would they be stop-motion? Would they be puppets? Would they be some weird Claymation type thing? No, they were to be CGI, something audiences had really only gotten used to recently. Would they work on screen? Oh, yes. Oh, yes, they would. The scene where our heroes see their first brachiosaurs wandering through the trees, eating as he goes, with John Williams€™ score in the background, remains one of the most amazing things ever captured on screen.
