Toy Story 4 Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs

A triumphant third sequel for Woody and co.

Toy Story 4
Pixar

Toy Story 4 is now in cinemas worldwide, and despite understandable scepticism from fans about Pixar delivering another sequel almost a decade after Toy Story 3 gave these character such a satisfying conclusion, the belated follow-up has received near-universal critical acclaim.

And indeed, whether you're a hardcore fan of the franchise or a more casual observer, Toy Story 4 improbably extends the series' winning streak, ensuring Toy Story is by default the best and most consistent cinematic "quadrilogy" ever made.

Though not quite reaching the endlessly imaginative highs of its predecessors, this is far from the cynical cash-grab many expected, and a more-than-worthy addition to one of the most creative, emotional and downright entertaining movie franchises of all time.

Fingers crossed that Pixar sees sense enough to quit while they're ahead by ending things here, but as ever, we'll have to wait and see whether or not Toy Story 5 ever materialises.

For the time being, though, the series' long-standing integrity is held firmly in tact with another heart-swelling dose of fun and feels for all ages...
