Trainspotting 2: 6 Biggest Talking Points From The T2 Trailer

Unleashed upon the world after being alluded to in a tweet by original author Irvine Welsh, the first trailer for the long awaited sequel to Danny Boyle's cult classic Trainspotting has been unveiled and it has caused widespread euphoria and excitement among fans of the original. And they are many and varied, thanks to the film's position as a seminal institution of British film-making at its best.

From the very first chill-inducing moment that the familiar strains of Underworld's 'Born Slippy' greets our ears, the continuation of the story of Renton, Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie becomes all too real after long periods of gestation and downplaying about a possible sequel.

Reuniting the original cast as well as much of its crew including revered screenwriter John Hodge, the initial trailer for the Danny Boyle helmed film is sure to spark a great deal of discussion and leaves faithful fans with much to ponder about the direction it's heading in.

Inundating the viewer with information despite being just shy of two minutes in length, here are the six most intriguing elements of the teaser trailer and what they tell us about the film ahead of its forthcoming release in January 2017.

The final sequence of Trainspotting sees Renton; wishing to escape the cyclical life of drug addiction and deception that follows him wherever he goes, discarding the uneasy truce which the gang had maintained during their massive London drug deal and fleeing with the sports bag full of money that Begbie was so tenderly clutching in his sleep.

Vanishing into the night with a new lease on life and nothing other than optimism running through his veins, the film's main protagonist leaves every one of his cohorts in the lurch save for Spud who'd later receive compensation for refusing to foil his plan.

Untraceable in the time that's elapsed, he's made his way back to Scotland's capital and is preparing to reacquaint himself with his old friends and it's something which the trailer shows us in more depth than anything else. As 'Rents' traipses into a dilapidated pub manned by none other than Sick Boy himself, we get the first indication of the group's mixed reaction as he passive aggressively enquires "so what have you been up to for 20 years?' with visible rage in his eyes.

At the other end of the spectrum entirely, we are next made privy to the reunion between himself and Spud, a much more heartwarming affair in which they touchingly inform each other how much they've missed one another.

Most predictably of all, the brief interactions that we witness between Leith's resident psychopath Francis 'Franco' Begbie and his long exiled pal turned nemesis are of a more volatile nature as he bellows at Renton from above a cubicle before presumably giving chase. As those familiar with the story would've gathered, it's likely that the road to reconciliation between all parties will likely constitute the entire opening section of the film as they attempt to come to terms with what took place in their chequered history.

Where Renton has been in the meantime isn't explicitly referenced in the trailer but we'll get to that a little later on.
