3. The World Needs Saving; Again!
It's a Transformers movie, so there's going to be big machines involved, lots of frantic running and screaming, scenes that are supposed to induce tension, and the world is going to have to be saved, again. With a handful of exceptions, all of Michael Bay's films have been about the world almost being torn to bits but being saved, just in time, by the good guys. And though it's inevitable that this coming in continuity with the previous Transformers films will be about the same, there's still an inkling of hope that the man manages to do something different. The gimmick has gone stale by now. Everyone knows that the Earth is going to remain as it is and whatever fear and tension of destruction Bay tries to induce is going to be temporary and ineffective. It would do well for him if he now moves the film into another realm; where there's something else at stake and not the Earth again. It doesn't even have to be something as pseudo-majestic or falsely grandiose. I know that this will require thinking, a habit that isn't one of Mr. Bay's strong suits, but I'm sure there's something better that can always be done.
