Transformers: Age Of Extinction - 10 Reasons We’re Freaking Out

4. Megatron Is Finally Dead

If there's anything that kills a heroic franchise faster than a quick blade to the heart, it's a villain that won't die. Sure, it's a commonly used trope in a lot of sequels, and rightfully so. Sometimes the villain is so compelling and so strong that a sequel is just another excuse to give people more of what they want. (Anyone else think Loki stole Thor: The Dark World?) Unfortunately, Megatron wasn't one such villain. He barely factored into the events of the first film, and with each passing film, he showed up even more beat-up and power hungry. There's determination, and then there's questioning whether your bad guy is made out of the world's strongest duct tape. It's not like there's a shortage of opponents, both human and Decepticon, to the Autobots' peaceful existence, but Megatron is the easiest to use because he's the de facto adversary to Optimus Prime and his brothers in arms. So colour us surprised that there's been no whisper, hint, or intent to place Megatron at the centre of this film's main conflict. There's plenty of Decepticons that look to be out for a piece of the action, and not even the DinoBots seem 100% on board the Peace and Love Humanity bandwagon. Now granted, Michael Bay has lied to us before about the status of Megatron, but with all of the other decisions we've seen made in regards to the story, we've got a feeling this might be legit.
