Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

1. The AWESOME Vocal Performances

The Transformers also sound awesome, in part due to the crackling sound design and mostly the outstanding vocal performances across the board.

It goes without saying that Peter Cullen crushes it once again as Optimus Prime - a role he could basically perform in his sleep at this point, and yet it's a performance that still feels effortful and authoritative.

Other highlights include Ron Perlman as Optimus Primal, whose signature booming vocal tenor is perfect for a badass robotic gorilla, and Pete Davidson, who while basically playing himself as a Transformer, helps make Mirage the film's major source of comic relief.

Michelle Yeoh is also good fun as falcon Maximal Airazor, and Peter Dinklage brings menace to Unicron's second-in-command Scourge.

All in all it's a film that certainly doesn't want for star wattage, and it doesn't feel like even the more famous actors among the cast are merely phoning their work in for a quick paycheck, so that's nice.
