Transformers: Top 5 Optimus Prime Deaths

3. Mini-Cons + Megatron = A White Christmas

The Unicron Trilogy has a lot to answer for in terms of production values and story-telling. But one thing it doesn't have to answer for is the latter days of the Armada cartoon, where fans were treated to a rather thrilling story of treachery and deceit between Transformers, all against a backdrop of Unicron. One of the highlights for this era of Transformers was surely Optimus Prime's death at the hands of the Megatron-controlled Hydra Cannon. Attempting and succeeding in preventing Megatron from using such a device to ruin the Earth, the Hydra Cannon instead obliterates Optimus into a ghostly wreck, causing him to be destroyed and disperse into a million silvery-white pieces. Prime would return, but those last few moments of Crisis were surprisingly rough for the heavily child-centric Armada cartoon.
