Triple Frontier Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
4. It's Visually Stunning
This is one hell of a gorgeous-looking movie, that's for sure. Chandor is no stranger to crafting aesthetically elaborate set-pieces, though this is definitely the biggest-scale thing he's approached to date, and he (mostly) pulls it off.
The bulk of the credit has to go to cinematographer Roman Vasyanov, though, who does a fantastic job capturing South America's natural beauty with epic, sweeping shots and sprawling vistas.
The film looks absolutely fantastic in 4K HDR on Netflix, ensuring it's never less than an eye-popping stylistic delight.
Elsewhere Ron Patane's editing keeps the film pacy even in its rougher moments, yet also knows when to hold on a meaningful image.
Overall it's too well-acted and intriguing to quite fall into the "style-over-substance" category, but its evocative visuals are certainly more consistent in their effectiveness than the writing.
