Truth Or Dare Review: 2 Ups & 8 Downs

2. There Are Some Neat Ideas

Truth Or Dare
Blumhouse

Though it makes so many basic, fundamental storytelling mistakes, there are definitely flecks of inspiration barely visible at the heart of this movie.

There are individual, isolated moments that actually work - namely a mildly engaging sequence where one poor girl is dared to walk barefoot on the roof of her house while drinking vodka - and some brief snippets of dialogue which hint at a far more interesting film, one that obviously didn't materialise here.

Several beats actually nod towards the potential for the central game to change lives for the positive and also to test the participants in ways they couldn't have expected, but these allusions to anything more than dumb horror movie schlock basically come and go very quickly.
