Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is a seminal enough story that it will surely be re-adapted into new movies until the heat death of the universe, but this new take from Paramount basically sounds like a mad-lib that a studio exec accidentally took seriously.

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is a new adaptation from cult horror director Ti West (the X trilogy), starring Johnny Depp as Scrooge while the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future will be played by Andrea Riseborough, Tramell Tillman, and Ian McKellen, and the cast is rounded out by Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, and Sam Claflin.

Oh, and the script has been written by Nathaniel Halpern, best known for writing numerous episodes of trippy sci-fi series Legion and Tales from the Loop.

Not a single element of this film feels like it coheres with the rest, and that's either going to result in an abject mess or the most impressively creative and left-field Dickens adaptation since The Muppet Christmas Carol.

Either way, it's gonna be a wild sight to see alright.
