5. My Best Friend’s Wedding 2
It sure seems like a ripe period for legacy sequels to classic comedies, and next up we'll be getting a follow-up to 1997's much-loved Julia Roberts-starring vehicle My Best Friend's Wedding.
While this doesn't seem like the most natural fit for a sequel of any kind, it's hard to dismiss it out of hand considering that it's set to be written by Past Lives and Materialists filmmaker Celine Song.
With her two films to date, Song has proven herself adept at delivering romantic stories that are both thematically rich and drenched in wit, so it seems highly unlikely that this will be just another belated rom-com sequel.
Quite what shape it will take remains to be seen, but it's easy to trust Song's process given that she's an Oscar-nominated writer who can bring some real juice and gravitas to a project like this.
(As long as they get Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney back, of course.)
