18. Ready Player Two
Even though Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One was a huge box office hit in 2018, grossing more than $608 million globally, the fact that no serious traction had been made on a sequel in the years that followed made it easy to believe it simply wasn't going to happen.
Though author Ernest Cline made several claims that an adaptation of his sequel novel Ready Player Two was in development with or without Spielberg - who later confirmed that he would produce but not direct the follow-up - it still seemed like it wasn't going anywhere.
But that all changed back in August, when the first film's co-writer, Zak Penn, confirmed that he was hard at work penning the sequel adaptation.
While it doesn't seem like Ready Player Two is ready to start shooting imminently, progress is at least being made, and so it may very well finally materialise within the next couple of years.
