2. There's Not Enough Action

It's a minor criticism in the grand scheme of things but one worth considering regardless: Upgrade isn't anywhere near as action-packed as the marketing seemed to suggest.

In fact, a lot of the movie's most entertaining action beats have been given away by the trailers, as the film is less-centred on prolonged set-pieces and more on brief bursts of wild violence.

This was likely a result of the movie's small budget, and though the action that Whannell delivers is absolutely magnetic, if you're expecting the wall-to-wall insanity promised by the trailers, you might be left a little disappointed by its sparer doling-out in reality.

Thankfully there's enough interesting going on outside of the action that this doesn't work against the movie too much.
