Us Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs
4. Jordan Peele's Meticulous Direction
While Us isn't as well-written as Get Out, it nevertheless sees a major uptick in the quality of Peele's direction.
While Get Out wasn't an especially remarkable movie from a directorial standpoint, Us feels decidedly more ambitious visually, with punchy shot selections and an abundance of images which stick firmly in the mind.
Much like Get Out, Peele uses visuals to hide key clues about the nature of the plot, which are sure to be make subsequent viewings extremely rewarding.
Knowing how deviously Peele constructed his previous film, it's undeniably fun scanning every frame of this movie and paying extra attention to every morsel of dialogue, seeking out hints for what might be unfolding.
Needless to say, Peele makes pretty much every shot of Us either stylish or information-dense, showing considerable growth as a filmmaker in the process.
