Vacation: 10 Ill-Advised Comedy Movie Comebacks
1. Laurel & Hardy
Talk abounded across the century of a post-grave reunion between the most iconic film slapstick team of them all. John Goodman and Rowan Atkinson were in the frame at one point, but it came to nothing. The pair may well have thought the challenge too great. Fans across the world of all generations would agree they'd be right.
Nevertheless, a fine mess was gotten into with The All-New Adventures of Laurel & Hardy: For Love or Mummy, that saw the descendants of the pair caught up in Egyptian-themed mischief. Bronson Pinchot was Stan, Gailard Sartain was Olly. Producers had the confidence to add to the legend but balked at replacing the immortal double act. Instead they gave us great-nephews with exactly the same names and behaviour, which they didn't seem to understand would be equally disrespectful to aficionados.
Bypassing cinemas, this sorry chapter does the rounds on satellite TV - I only became aware of it by sheer chance during a channel hop - but has rightfully been consigned to the almighty wrong pile in the sky. Definitely one for the "I can't believe they made it!" file.
