Venom 2: 10 Mistakes Sony Must Avoid This Time
9. The Anticlimactic Climax
In the movie's climax, Riot - the evil-bad-scarier-than-Venom symbiote - convinces morally questionable scientist Carlton Drake to bond with him and travel to space in a spaceship in order to collect the other symbiotes out there and bring them to Earth.
But they fail in their evil endeavors and Venom and Eddie Brock manage to stop them thanks to the power of staging an incomprehensible mess of a final battle. We bare witness to two dark blobs of slime slugging it out at night as the camera cuts and moves as if it's being handled by someone doing their best Michael Bay impression.
Not even a slapped on countdown to a rocket launch can add tension to a death match we can barely comprehend. The result is exasperation, not edge-of-your-seat thrills.
Even if the fight had been easy to follow, it likely would have been underwhelming anyway, since the character development up until this point has been so lacklustre.
