3. The Lack Of A Spider-Man Connection
Studio politics; the bane of all our lives.
Venom and Eddie Brock are known to be fundamentally tied to Spider-Man. Both Venom and Brock have gone onto bigger and brighter things, forging identities of their own independent of Spidey, but still, the link remains; Venom's very appearance deliberately recalls Spidey's suit.
Having said that, Venom's origin in the Ultimate universe isn't tied to Spider-Man, so the lack of web-slinging wall crawlers isn't necessarily an issue. It's just, well, we want to see the enemies go toe-to-toe.
But there is hope: Sony and Marvel are not deaf to fan demands, or the sound of cash registers going cha-ching, and it seems every other week there's tentative plans for Sony and Marvel Studios to bury the hatchet and fulfill our dreams. Only for those plans to be squashed by some studio bigwig with a single quote.
We can but hope.
