6. The Effects

When the Venom movie was first mentioned, there was some cynicism (inevitably) about the potential for the effects work to let the film down. We've seen slimy black alien-demon things quite recently in Suicide Squad, after all, and they were a comical abomination, even without the added requirements a symbiote brings to the effects team.

Add to that the usual pitfall of trailers releasing incomplete effects and it begins to be clear why the last trailer left Venom so conspicuously out of proceedings. But we needn't have worried.

The effects here look great. Yes, they're a little cartoony, but that feels like it matches the film's tone and there is one shot in there of Venom in almost gaseous form that looks absolutely unreal. If this is an indication of how good the final effects are going to be, we're in for a treat.
