Venom Trailer 2 Reactions: 7 Ups & 4 Downs
3. There's Much More Venom
The biggest problem with the first trailer for Venom was that it didn't really show us Venom. It wasn't the worst idea as it gave us some space to get behind Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, but it was inevitable that fans would cry out at not being given more of the name above the door. After all, nobody comes to a Venom movie to see what Eddie's up to.
So it's great that this trailer has gone up to 11 on the Venom (and other symbiotes) stuff. Rather than bothering with an Alien/Jaws approach and not showing the monster, they've stacked their chips on the star of the show and it really does work. Sure, it's not the most subtle sales technique, but when your Venom looks this good and has such a broad range of powers, there's no problem showing it off a little.
And while it might have been preferable to some to keep the other symbiotes a secret (certainly true in the case of Riot), it will be FAR easier to sell a symbiote royal rumble than a low-key indie about identity crisis (which the first trailer seemed to be hinting it wanted to be).
