2. The Body Horror

While there's lots of strange pitch-black comedy in there and a sort of roguish gleam to things (aimed squarely at the Deadpool crowd, as already discussed), it's also VERY clear that Ruben Fleischer wanted to make Venom a true body horror movie.

And by the look of those flashes of the experimentation sequences and what we've seen of the symbiote transformations, that's exactly what he's achieved. It all looks genuinely creepy and decidedly disgusting to the extent that it seems the director's been watching David Cronenberg and John Carpenter films as homework.

This is what will truly set Venom apart from "normal" superhero movies and it's great to see it hinted at in the trailer.
