Venom: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

6. Carnage's Origin May Be Changed

Though at first it seemed as though Venom would be taking more cues from the symbiote origin found in the Ultimate Marvel comics universe, it actually stuck pretty close to the original story. They're still extraterrestrial lifeforms, and there's even technically a planet of them out there somewhere, but the film doesn't offer any clues as to how they reproduce.

While it's clear there is a symbiote "society", as Venom references being a loser on his planet and Riot being a "team leader", there's no indication any of these lifeforms have a family, which would come to define the symbiotes in the comics. There, Carnage was actually the offspring of Venom rather than an entirely different entity, adding a strange familial dynamic to their battles.

This movie muddies those waters somewhat though. Going off the ending, it's implied that Carnage may already be out there, however with all the symbiotes from the Life Foundation dead, it would make sense for future aliens to be Venom's own offspring. It would keep the drama fresh as well; Venom and Brock seem pretty chill with each other by the end, but indirectly birthing new alien killing machines would sure drive a wrench between them.
