History

Athelstan was a prominent character throughout the show's first three seasons. The Anglo-Saxon monk had a riveting relationship with his capturer, Ragnar Lothrok. This ultimately lead to his brutal demise at the hands of Ragnar's friend, Floki the boat builder.

George Blagden has the face for period drama. This is evident as he went on to star as King Louis XIV in the historical series 'Versailles' from 2015 to 2018. In a similar setting to the French biographic, he appeared as Grantaire in the 2012 film adaption of 'Les Misérables'.

In 2020, Blagden was nominated for an IndieX Film Festival September Award for his solo role in the short drama 'Lara'. This was a project he also wrote and directed himself.

George has dabbled in futuristic roles too, portraying Lenny in the 'Black Mirror' episode 'Hang the DJ'. He also provided his voice acting talent in the video game 'Troy: A Total War Saga'.

The Englishman has recently wrapped on the following titles: 'The Gallery', 'Rubikon' and 'The Land of Dreams'.
