Warcraft Review – 4 Ups And 6 Downs
1. The Finale Doesn't Work At All
Its kinda ironic that the films being called Warcraft: The Beginning internationally. Not just because getting a sequel looks incredibly unlikely, but because the film really cant get the ending to work.
It's becoming an increasingly common trend in recent blockbusters to have the final battle comes out of nowhere because the plot demands it, a likely by-product of studio mandates meddling with traditional narrative flow. But what we get in Warcraft is particularly ugly; nothing seems to fit as we barrel towards the conclusion and the battle itself has no sense of coherence.
Without going into spoilers, it breaks its own rules both on a story and mythological basis, introduces key concepts on the fly and manages to lose track of an entire army. If youre not 100% on board with the film when things kick off (and that's incredibly unlikely) then your reaction is going to be one ranging between confusion and disbelief.
