Warcraft Review – 4 Ups And 6 Downs

1. The Finale Doesn't Work At All

It€™s kinda ironic that the film€™s being called Warcraft: The Beginning internationally. Not just because getting a sequel looks incredibly unlikely, but because the film really can€™t get the ending to work.

It's becoming an increasingly common trend in recent blockbusters to have the final battle comes out of nowhere because the plot demands it, a likely by-product of studio mandates meddling with traditional narrative flow. But what we get in Warcraft is particularly ugly; nothing seems to fit as we barrel towards the conclusion and the battle itself has no sense of coherence.

Without going into spoilers, it breaks its own rules both on a story and mythological basis, introduces key concepts on the fly and manages to lose track of an entire army. If you€™re not 100% on board with the film when things kick off (and that's incredibly unlikely) then your reaction is going to be one ranging between confusion and disbelief.
