What Critics HATED About Venom
3. The Supporting Characters
Tom Hardy is a phenomenal actor and he's watchable in just about everything. In truth, if you make a bad movie with Tom Hardy in, there's something wrong with your ability as a film-maker. It's just science.
Unfortunately, the same cannot now be said of Michelle Williams or Riz Ahmed who are lumbered with a bad script and too little character development or focus to really matter. If you remove them both from the film, it's hard to even argue that it wouldn't be a worse movie.
Nobody else even comes close to mattering either and it all feels a little like Deadpool again, only with a slightly less compelling central character to rescue the film from the poor points. It's a shame, but hopefully there's a lesson here for sequels if they come.
