What Does The Ending Of 10 Cloverfield Lane Really Mean?

What's Next?

The movie ends with Michelle destroying the smaller ship and driving off in search of hope. She then hears a message from the resistance that tells survivors to head north of Baton Rouge, but for anybody with military or medical experience to head to Houston, and opts to go with the latter, choosing a proactive role in the fight. So our hero is going to join the human resistance, who have just won their first victory and reclaimed the southern seaboard. We're poised for a fight for humanity's very survival, and everything really is up in the air. There's also the suggestion that not everywhere is a battleground; north of Louisiana is presented as a safe place. Either there's newly-reclaimed safe-zones or the aliens are choosing their attack points carefully (possibly, as Howard suggested, targeting dense population centres). It's worth pointing out that the attack could be somewhat centred on Houston - it's possible the aliens tracked transmissions to NASA ground control (we know from the ARG they had reports of extra terrestrial activity) and chose to strike at what they viewed a key strategic base. The movie sets up a bigger fight between humanity and the aliens, although that may not be where the Cloverfield series is heading. I'll get to that in a minute though, as now we've broken down the story beats it's time to look at the big message of 10 Cloverfield Lane.
