Definitely the most enduring friendship in The Lord of the Rings is the one between Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee.

Separated from the rest of the Fellowship the pair journey on into Mordor, being joined by Gollum who seeks to drive them apart and take back the Ring for himself. In spite of all the hardships that they face, Sam never wains in his devotion to his friend, doing everything in his power to see that Frodo completes his quest and the Ring is destroyed.

Frodo has a short spell as deputy mayor of the Shire and writes his own tale in Bilbo's Red Book of Westmarch, but he struggles to settle back into normal life. He feels the effects of carrying the Ring for so long and also from the wound inflicted by the Nazgul at Weathertop and decides that the Shire can't be his home any longer, taking the ship with Bilbo and Gandalf to the Undying Lands.

All throughout the journey to Mordor, the thought of returning to the Shire had kept hope alive in Sam and he was able to settle back into life more comfortably. He married Rosie Cotton and they had thirteen children. When Frodo went to the Undying Lands he gave Sam Bag End and the Red Book of Westmarch. Sam was elected as mayor of the Shire seven times for a total of forty-nine years in office.

Eventually he too journeyed to the Undying Lands and reunited with Frodo, entrusting the Red Book to Elanor, one of his daughters.

Huge fan of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Watches anything with Liam Neeson in it.
