What If Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man Had Joined The Avengers?
5. Amazing Spider-Man In The MCU
Despite the failure of the second Amazing Spider-Man movie, there were some initial ideas as to how to incorporate the Andrew Garfield version of the character and his universe into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel had actually looked into this possibility and were definitely not opposed to it. Sony had decided they wanted a fresh start and thus we got the Tom Holland version as we did.
In imagining an alternate version of the MCU Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield in mind, there are definitely some changes that we would have to assume this alternate MCU would have:
Firstly, Spider-Man would be a recognized hero in New York after his fights with the Lizard and Electro and not just a random Youtube fascination by the time Civil War rolls around.
Secondly, Peter would also be older as he had graduated high school at the beginning of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which would presumably mean we would have seen his surrogate father/son relationship with Tony Stark be downplayed or even removed entirely.
Thirdly, there is the looming spectre of Oscorp corporation as by that point they had already outfitted the Rhino and Green Goblin. Vulture's story in Homecoming would probably be tweaked to accommodate this as opposed to focusing his hate towards Tony Stark.
So, what about the likely MCU debut for Spidey? Let's look at what Civil War might have looked like...
