What Marvel's Black Panther Cast Look Like In The Comics
6. M'Baku
In The Comics:
Known as the villain named "Man-Ape", M'Baku was part of the white ape cult, a radical sect among the Jabari who would kill white apes and absorb their strength in a ritual. He was a sworn enemy of the Black Panther, and abhorred technology, and therefore the technological path Wakanda took under T'Chaka's rule.
Later on in the comics he challenged T'Challa for the throne and bested him in combat, but was crushed under a panther statue. He returned many times over, often as a villain in opposition to the Black Panther.
In The Film:
A fan-favourite, M'Baku is the enormous and strong leader of the Jabari mountain tribe. He challenged T'Challa for the throne, but lost, though he was grateful to T'Challa for sparing his life for the sake of his people.
Despite disdain for Wakanda's technology and resentment for the main tribes for effectively ostracising the Jabari, M'Baku proves to be an honourable and faithful ally to the new king.
Played by Winston Duke, this incarnation of M'Baku proves to be a dignified, good man with what many in the audience would agree was perfect comedic timing, and a sense of humour that would make Hanuman proud.
