What Spider-Man: Homecoming Cast Look Like In The Comics

2. MJ

Mary Jane Watson Zendaya
Marvel

In The Comics

Mary Jane Watson is Peter's lobster, to borrow the delightful phrase from Friends. Though he has had lots of romances over the years, she's the one most remember, and she's generally also remembered as a red-haired, self-confident wannabe actress, who almost immediately deduces Peter Parker's secret.

In The Film

As almost everyone knew seemingly months before release, Zendaya's Michelle is MJ in the same way that John Blake is The Dark Knight trilogy's Robin, though you get the sense this will be more than a spiritual name gimmick.

She doesn't look like the comic iteration (prompting an awful, typical reaction from white supremacists crying over PC) and she's a fellow genius with a deliciously sharp wit and a viper-like tongue. In short, she's great.

1. Peter Parker

Peter Parker Tom Holland
Marvel

In The Comics

Homecoming's iteration of Peter Parker very much takes a lead from the Ultimates universe, whose father worked for SHIELD and who was empowered when a mutant spider bit him. He looks cooler than the original version (mostly thanks to his lovely curtains hair-style), but he's still a target for bullies.

He died in Brian Michael Bendis' Death Of Spider-Man, but was (inevitably) revived. If Marvel can't retain his rights, that's the direction they ought to go in for a shock.

In The Film

Almost a carbon copy of the Ultimates character, Tom Holland is a brilliant addition to the movie series and effuses that intangible Spidey essence. He even looks like Peter from the page.
