What The Avengers: Infinity War Cast Look Like In The Comics
20. Bucky Barnes
In the Comics:
Though for the longest time, one of Marvel's unchanging truths apart from Uncle Ben dying was that Bucky Barnes was definitely gone, Ed Brubaker changed that with his Winter Soldier storyline in 2005, when Bucky Barnes came back as the brainwashed Soviet assassin, the Winter Soldier.
Given that the Infinity Gauntlet story happened years before that, Bucky played no role at all in the event, though he's become a mainstay grey-moral hero, and once even replaced Steve Rogers as Captain America.
In the Film:
Having had his programming reversed by Princess Shuri, Bucky Barnes is seen living a peaceful and seemingly productive life in Wakanda, only to be recruited by King T'Challa to help defend the country from invasion, provided a new metal arm made from Wakandan tech.
He's the first casualty seen of Thanos's final solution.
Since Winter Soldier, he's been portrayed by Sebastian Stan, becoming a fan favourite over the years. Largely resembling his comics counterpart, Barnes has yet to become Captain America in the films, and never had a stint as teenage sidekick Bucky as in the comics. His new Wakandan arm also lacks the red star given to him by his Soviet captors.
