What The Avengers: Infinity War Cast Look Like In The Comics
16. Mantis
In the Comics:
A masterful martial artist and telepath, Mantis was a Vietnamese human girl trained by the Kree Priests of Pama, who erased her memories and returned her to Vietnam to live a normal childhood, to aid her in becoming the ancient and mysterious Celestial Madonna.
At one point in the comics, she was shattered to pieces, fragments of her soul living separately across the universe.
In the Film:
First appearing in the Guardians' second film, Mantis is an empath able to put people to sleep, or wake them, with her powers. Her abilities are so great that she's able to put a being like Ego to sleep, as well as successfully (if difficultly) put Thanos under for a short time during Infinity War, though her child-like demeanour and limited combat skills make her a mostly minor threat.
She, along with most of the Guardians, are casualties of Thanos's culling by the end of Civil War.
She's played by French actress Pom Klementieff, her character very different from her comics counterpart, who is fiercer than the film's meek, innocent incarnation. She also lacks comics Mantis's green skin, though she has the same antennae and black hair.
