What The Avengers: Infinity War Cast Look Like In The Comics
14. Rocket Raccoon And Groot
In the Comics:
Rocket and Groot met in prison and formed a rapport, with Rocket having been given intelligence by robots and Groot having been exiled from his planet for defending mammals and freeing captive humans, against the wishes of his own kind.
There was an instance in which Groot was completely destroyed, but had reformed from a twig that Rocket had saved from his remains. Though for a time, Groot had an incredibly limited vocabulary, he eventually recovered his ability to speak in full sentences.
In the Film:
As partners in crime, Groot and Rocket were already inseparable from the beginning of the first Guardians film. Though Groot sacrificed himself then to save the team, he was able to grow back from a piece of him the Guardians had saved, returning as baby Groot in the second film, and teen Groot in Infinity War.
Both accompany Thor to Nidavellir to retrieve a Thanos-killing weapon, and teen Groot cuts off a piece of himself to form the ax, Stormbreaker's handle. Rocket is voiced by Bradley Cooper, and Groot played in mocap and voiced by Vin Diesel.
Both largely resemble their comics counterparts, though Groot has never spoken in full sentences in the films.
