What The Avengers: Infinity War Cast Look Like In The Comics
2. Iron Man
In the Comics:
A unique character that Stan Lee had conceptualised for comic readers to root for someone they hated, Tony Stark was a rich, industrialist scientist whose experiences being captured as a prisoner of war pushed him to build a suit of armour and become a superhero. As one of the founding Avengers, Iron Man often starred in adventures alongside Captain America and his teammates, with Stark's identity kept secret.
During the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, Iron Man is brutally beheaded by Thanos's created being, Terraxia.
In the Film:
Having experienced PTSD from the first Avengers film, Tony Stark has since been preparing for an inevitable repeat invasion, proven correct by Thanos's hunt for the Infinity Stones.
Tony, alongside his allies, attempt to subdue Thanos and take the Gauntlet on Titan, but Thanos is able to mortally wound Tony, before Strange exchanges the Time Stone for Tony's life, implying his presence is crucial to defeating the Mad Titan and saving everyone.
For ten years, Iron Man has been played by the "Godfather of the MCU", Robert Downey Jr. Like in the comics, his armours have evolved over time, and his nano-tech suit in Infinity War resembles his comics counterpart's Bleeding Edge armour.
