What The Critics Hated About Fantastic Beasts 2

5. The Magic Just Isn't Quite There

You can get into the specifics of the Crimes Of Grindelwald reviews fairly easily, but there's also the tangible sense that critics simply don't feel the Harry Potter magic in the sequel.

It's unfortunate - and slightly frustrating - that this film will be held up against the Harry Potter films, but when they've clearly worked so hard this time out on drawing the films closer together, the parallels will inevitably present themselves more obviously. They've effectively made this happen themselves in an attempt to market the film better.

The result of that closer proximity seems to be that the critics just aren't as clear on the film's identity and simply don't feel the same way as they did about the Potter movies. There's even a sense that this film is trying a little too hard to capture that magic and it comes off as insistent.
