What The Critics Hated About Fantastic Beasts 2
4. It's Cluttered And Clumsy
As part of the studio's decision to double-stuff the film with story, it turns out there's just too many characters in The Crimes Of Grindelwald, at least in critics' opinions.
Now, this wasn't so much of an issue with the Harry Potter films - which had a lot of characters - but when combined with too many pointless or distracting subplots, you end up with a lack of focus for those characters that ends up being pretty fatal.
More than one review talks about not really understanding character dynamics (or at least not caring about them), and there are questions over the motivation to include so many characters. Was this just a means to crowd-please?
