After Kim Basinger's Vicki Vale in Batman and Michelle Pfeiffer's Selina Kyle in Batman Returns, focus would have turned to a whole new love interest played by Rene Russo in the threequel. She was intended to play Dr Chase Meridian - who ended up being played by Nicole Kidman when Joel Schumacher came on board).

She had been at the height of her career when Batman III was being made, but ultimately Burton left and Schumacher decided to cast younger.
