What Your Favourite Batman Movie Says About You

2. Batman Returns (1992)

BatmanReturns-Still1_CRThe Movie: Given the success of his first Batman movie, Tim Burton was pegged to deliver another hit with this follow-up - by all accounts, he didn't disappoint too badly. Maybe this one hasn't aged as well as the first Burton entry, but the addition of Michelle Pfeiffer gave Batman Returns a sexier edge, and Danny Devito - no Nicholson, of course - delivers a hilariously delirious performance as the Penguin. What It Says About You: For one reason or another, this was the first Batman movie you ever saw. As a teenager, you developed a huge crush on Michelle Pfeiffer and are often prone to wondering out-loud - to the constant annoyance of your friends - why she isn't still a huge star today. You'll respectively refuse the notion that Christopher Nolan's trilogy is darker than this entry: this one had real bite, and the Penguin was far more nerve-jangling than that wimp Bane. Whereas those movies were all about pseudo-intellectual monologues, you think this one got the darker aspects of the comic books just right. Above all, you like the fact that you like this movie the best, because it firmly separates you from the Nolan fanboys. "They obviously don't appreciate the true genius of Batman Returns," you occasionally whisper to yourself, although only when somebody is definitely in earshot. Soundbite: "The most under-appreciated sequel of all-time? Lemme think about that for a second. Oh, wait: it's Batman Returns, obviously. But I guess you wouldn't understand." Favourite Movies: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Adamms Family Values
