Duck You Sucker (aka A Fistful of Dynamite)
Duck You Sucker is one of cinema's rare little gems that most people will never see. The odd title was fiercely fought for by Leone, who at the time of the film's release thought that saying duck you sucker was a popular euphemism in America. No one, even to this day, likes the title. Several of the cast members said as much and when Leone refused to change it many of the studios decided they would change it for him. Thus in America the movie was called A Fistful of Dynamite and in France, Once Upon a Time the Revolution, probably the title it should have held all along. If Duck You Sucker is your favorite Leone movie than you deserve a pat on the back. You are a stand-alone person, who doesn't take anything off of nobody. You would gladly debate why this film is Leone's best because this time around the characters have immense depth to them and do see big changes by the end. The darkness of the film and references to concentration camps with scenes of mass executions make you appreciate the political commentary the film has to offer as well. And you definitely don't think much of other Leone fans who wont give it a watch just because it got stuck with the title Duck You Sucker. The fact that the film is ridiculously slow and the soundtrack eccentric (even for a Leone movie the soundtrack for this film is sort of bizarre) do not bother you in the least. You want to experience the film the way the director meant for it to be watched. Perhaps you like the performances of James Coburn and Rod Steiger over Eastwood, Wallach, and Van Cleef, but that's stretching it a little far. On a further note this film might reveal you to be a little cynical of the world and society as a whole. The moral ambiguity while provoking your brain with thought might also lead you to a melancholy brooding. Overall this film is an incredible historical drama set during the Mexican Revolution that sadly quite often goes overlooked.
