What Your Favourite Star Trek Movie Says About You

Star Trek III: The Search For Spock

Star Trek Iii Search For Spock Movie Still 2

The Wrath Of Khan was a huge success in every aspect and Paramount wanted to capitalize on that. Leonard Nimoy who was looking forward to being killed off was even convinced that Star Trek had legs as a movie franchise and it didn't take much arm twisting for him to come back as Spock; the promise that he could direct also helped.

The Search For Spock is not really a search as they know where his body is. It is more about the sacrifices Kirk makes to save his friend who has regenerated on the newly formed planet, Genesis. The Klingons also make a return with Christopher Lloyd putting in a memorable performance as General Kruge. Romulans were originally meant to be the villains in the movie but were switched to the Klingons at the last minute. That is why The Bird Of Prey is more Romulan in design and links with the Romulan Bird Of Prey seen in the Original Series.

The middle part of what became a trilogy, The Search For Spock is a less grand film than originally envisioned but it is still hugely fun to watch. It also has Kirk blowing up the Enterprise, something that would have been a massive shock to the cinema audience if Paramount hadn€™t ruined the surprise in the marketing for the film.

What It Says About You:

Star Trek has always been about the human condition. Love, loyalty and friendship is what brings out the best in people and the best Star Trek has always been about humanity using that to overcome the odds to better itself. In between fighting Khan and Kruge, the dark matter in Star Trek is the relationships and that is what you hone into. That is why Spock€™s death was so painful to watch, not only did it hurt to see the character you love die, but also it meant Kirk was losing an important part of himself.

So when Kirk sticks two fingers up at Starfleet and steals the Enterprise to go save his friend, it makes your heartstrings tingle to see such loyalty. Even though it means Kirk will lose everything to save Spock, he still does it because he loves his friend. The Search For Spock is a straight forward story about friendship and it pleases you that Spock is brought back into the fold. Without him, Star Trek was missing one of its most important elements. You are extremely loyal to your friends. If it meant answering the phone to them at 2am because they were in trouble, you would jump out of bed and drive through the night in you pajamas to help them. You don€™t always get that kind of loyalty back but it doesn€™t matter, their continuing friendship is what counts. You are also a bit of a rebel, if someone tells you €˜€™NO,€™€™ you will find a way around that temporary inconvenience. Favorite Moment In The Film:

Kirk blowing up the Enterprise.
