What Your Favourite Star Trek Movie Says About You

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Star Trek 4 Voyage Home

The Voyage Home continued the story that started with Wrath Of Khan. Spock is now back, alive and well, and the crew are all set to take the stolen Bird Of Prey back home and face the consequences of disobeying Starfleet's orders.

On their way home, they get a message about a probe that is about to destroy the Earth because it can€™t get a response from the now extinct, Humpback whale population. Kirk decides the only option is to go back in time to 1986, bring back some whales so they can to tell the probe what it can to do with itself.

The Voyage Home was a €˜€™fish out of water€™€™ comedy as Kirk & Co. try to complete their mission and deal with day-to-day life of mid 1980€™s San Francisco. Eddie Murphy was lined up for a supporting role but it didn€™t happen and many saw it as a blessing after the disastrous turn of Richard Pryor in Superman III.

Popular with Star Trek fans and newbie€™s, this Star Trek comedy is almost as highly regarded as The Wrath Of Khan. Leonard Nimoy returned for directing duties and closed the trilogy of movies perfectly. What It Says About You:

The easy thing to say would be that you are an Eco-warrior but even though the state of the planet is important to you; what you like about The Voyage Home is that it managed to make a point about how our own short-sightedness will be the ultimate cause of our downfall, but managed to do it in a fun way.

Some moan that there isn't enough ''space'' in the film, that it is too left field and not serious enough; but they are wrong. After the €˜€™death and rebirth€™€™ themes of the previous two films, it is refreshing to see the crew let their hair down, even though the threat is just as severe. In any serious situation, you understand the consequences but that doesn€™t stop you from using humour to lighten the mood; that is The Voyage Home in a nutshell.

For you, Star Trek is always at its best when it has a message and this is a strong one. It also helps that the message is wrapped up in a comedy. 'The Trouble With Tribbles' and 'Piece Of The Action' are some of your favorite episodes, where each characters personality are used to create humorous situations. This film is like one long, excellent, Landing Party mission. It's great to hear Kirk & Spock attempt ''colourful metaphors,'' and Kirk even gets a (sort off) love interest to work his charms on.

You also like that The Voyage Home is a Star Trek film you can show to your non-Trekkie friends. They don't care about how many temporal violations Kirk broke saving the Earth, they enjoy it while seeing the best of what Star Trek is all about.
