When Zac Efron met Orson Welles!

First look at Richard Linklater's next movie set around Welles' Mercury Theatre.

Here comes our first look at Richard Linklater's next movie Me and Orson Welles, the drama based on the Robert Kaplow novel that sees a young high school student inexplicably become noticed by Mercury Theatre founder Orson Welles who gives the inexperienced and nervous guy a bit part in his production of Julius Caesar. Caesar was the show that made Welles a theatre star. Hopefully graduating to a higher acting level than his High School Musical performances, the too often annoying Zac Efron stars as the young student... unknown film actor Christian McKay has the mammoth task of playing Welles on screen, but it's ok he has done it extensively on stage. Here's our first look at the picture. When Efron met Welles...

Also in the above picture I believe is Ben Chaplain as theatre acting legend George Couloris (far, far right I believe) but I can't make out the other guys. Claire Danes, Zoe Kazan, James Tupper (as one of my favourite screen icons of all time, Joseph Cotton) and Eddie Marsan round out the cast.

Despite the movie not really being about Welles and being more about Efron and the love he shares with Danes, this is still a movie I have a high anticipation for. Richard Linklater is a great fan of Welles, you can see it in his work, he has a great love for classic cinema. I have no doubt he can capture the provocative atmosphere of the 40's theatre and the giants that occupied theatres in those days, specifically Welles' Mercury Theatre. And when Linklater is firing (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Dazed & Confused) he is a fantastic storyteller in his own right. Look for this one next year, it's exact date of release is unknown. source - worst previews
