Which Movie About AI Is The Most Accurate?
1. WALL-E (Accurate)
WALL-E is the lovable AI trash collector protagonist of Pixar’s 2008 film. What’s even more to love is that WALL-E is considered by many to be the most accurate film about AI ever made.
The film begins on Earth quite some time after it became uninhabitable and the human race left it behind to go the space. On the spaceship Axiom where humans now live, everything in their daily lives are catered to by AI.
Why It’s Accurate
All of the robots in WALL-E are designed to specialize only in certain tasks. EVE’s directive is to search the Earth for vegetation, AUTO flies the ship, and WALL-E picks up trash.
This type of AI is known as Artificial Narrow-Intelligence. While Artificial General Intelligence and Artificial Superintelligence are still a ways off, once they do come into being, they aren’t going to have much affect on our day-to-day lives. ANI like WALL-E are going to be much more ubiquitous in our daily lives—and they are already beginning to be!
Will ANI take away our jobs? They’re just going to take away the dirty, redundant jobs that people don’t want to do anyway. There will always be some jobs only humans can do (such as writing listicles). Having robot helpers will point civilization more toward peaceful times, less stress, and more time to spend with our loved ones.
What is worrisome about WALL-E, though, is just how lazy are we going to allow ourselves to become once we have robots doing practically everything for us?
