Moving from one Spider-Man director to another. Raimi, a veteran at this stage in his career, is arguably best known for his role in making Sony's original trilogy featuring the webslinger.

His last film was 2013's Oz the Great and Powerful and he has remained largely out of the limelight ever since. However, he will make a sensational return to the superhero genre after it was recently announced that he will sit in the director's chair for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, scheduled for release in March 2022.

He replaces Scott Derrickson, who left the project due to creative differences. It is believed that Derrickson was more concentrated on making a horror film than Marvel were willing to allow. Raimi himself has much experience in horror, having also directed the original Evil Dead films. Marvel may be hoping that he can balance this expertise with the flare that has made his Spider-Man films so well-loved.
