Why Avengers: Secret Wars Is Perfect For MCU Phase 4

7. ...But Also A One-Shot Change To Do Whatever You Like

Thanks to the comic imprint, Marvel know that there are certain things that fans will expect from major cross-over events - even when they're going to impact ongoing stories in this tangible a way. There'll be huge stakes, probably deaths, new appearances of returns and lots of silliness. It's basically like WrestleMania but in panel-form.

The "silliness" point also matters a lot here because Secret Wars would be the kind of one-shot event opportunity that would mean Marvel Studios can essentially do what they like. They could even channel some of the more odd elements of the comic book arc - including the use of the Marvel Zombies imprint - given that the new Battleworld is basically made for those sorts of surprises.

And the best thing is that it wouldn't matter in the long-term (and having some elements that do last will deflect from the inevitable accusations of jumping the shark). Having a story that is fundamentally tied to reality-meddling makes Secret Wars a free hit. So why not bring back dead characters or introduce things from the comics that simply won't work in this MCU reality (like Morbius or even Blade as a back-door debut)?

it's the kind of opportunity fans would respond to with massive excitement.
