Why John Hammond Faked Jurassic Park
3. The Park Was A Disaster LITERALLY Waiting To Happen
The reality is that Hammond wasn't forging ahead with ambitious, ground-breaking research - rather, once he knew his initial dream was dead, he simply created the scarce illusion of such in order to get paid by Big Science.
In actual fact, none of InGen's tech worked with any overt level of success.
For starters, the extracted DNA could only create dinosaurs which lived a short time, hence the bizarre absence of dinos during the tour, while the group stumbling across a sick Triceratops was absolutely the rule rather than exception.
Better still, the supposed "Lysine contingency" - that the dinosaurs can't survive without lysine supplements - was nothing more than an excuse to justify their short lifespans.
This pervasive trickery also extends to the island itself, which only had to maintain a most superficial facade of functionality.
Though claiming he "spared no expense," it's painfully clear throughout the film that Hammond skimped out on major infrastructural aspects of the park, from not hiring an extensive security detail to failing to provide backup generators and flood-prevention systems, and hell, not even giving Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) a freaking raise.
And then there's the fact that Hammond knowingly had the park built on an island with a volcano of dubious activity. Though this is omitted from the final film itself, both the original script and Crichton's novel speak of Isla Nublar's hot steam vents, suggesting the volcano is anything but dormant.
While the volcano doesn't actually erupt until the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, it's tough to fathom why any right-headed businessman would dare build on such a volatile piece of land. It is, surely, because Hammond knew a volcanic eruption could potentially bury any evidence of wrongdoing on his part.
Basically, Hammond had the park designed to fail in order to cover-up his malfeasance, and this extended to taking the lives of anyone who dared challenge his deception...
