Why Sam Raimi Is Perfect For Doctor Strange 2
3. He's A Master Of Horror
Sam Raimi is a name synonymous with two things, horror and Greek mythological TV. And while Hercules and Xena hold a special place in the hearts of all 90's kids it's his horror accolades which make Raimi perfect for a film like Multiverse of Madness. He began his directing career with the cult smash hit The Evil Dead, which is as much a love letter to Lovecraft as the title of the newest Doctor Strange film.
Raimi's horror films tend to take on the quality of relentless nightmares. In the three Evil Dead films the main character, Ash is put through a gauntlet of physical, psychological and spiritual attacks by a force of pure supernatural evil. Likewise in Drag Me To Hell and even Oz the Great and Powerful there are wicked paranormal powers warping reality into a grotesque caricature of itself.
Raimi's style of surrealist horror is exactly the blend of weird and scary that a movie like Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness needs.
