Why The Mummy Was A Disaster

1. It Went Up Against Wonder Woman

And finally, The Mummy hit screens the week after Wonder Woman, which has massively exceeded both critical and commercial expectations so far, so audiences largely went to see that instead, while those still vaguely interested in The Mummy will probably catch it on Netflix later in the year.

Plus, with The Mummy representing women so poorly, Wonder Woman was an easy sell for female audiences looking for their blockbuster fix. Going up against a superhero movie, even a DC one, is always a risky bet, and it absolutely didn't pay off for this film. That the gulf of quality between the two projects is so huge only makes it that much worse.
