Why The Mummy Was A Disaster

4. Reboot Fatigue

The reboot trend has been going on for a while now, and though there are absolutely some successes in that arena, it also seems that audiences are getting a little fatigued with it.

Consider the recent likes of Ghostbusters, Power Rangers and Baywatch, all big-budget retoolings of classic franchises that fell on deaf ears with audiences, if not critics too.

Viewers are tired of seeing their childhoods lazily dredged up for easy money driven by nostalgia, and The Mummy's underwhelming box office performance is a further testament to that. That's not to say a Mummy reboot was always doomed, but one this transparently cynical absolutely was.
