Why Zack Snyder Was Fired From Justice League

5. His Films Simply Weren't Marketable Enough

Even before Justice League was seen to be in trouble at an executive level, Zack Snyder was on borrowed time as the head of the DCEU. And while Man Of Steel and Batman v Superman had made more than $1.4bn combined, they cost more than $525m (without the marketing costs, which would have been enormous). They were profitable, but not enough.

Man Of Steel can be but aside slightly, as it was far more lucrative than Superman Returns and it was something of a gamble given that film's "failure," but Batman V Superman should have made a billion easily. Considering Jurassic World pulled in $1.67bn, the latest Fast & Furious movies made $1.5bn and $1.2bn and The Minions made $1.159bn, its $873bn haul was plainly not enough.

The whole idea of making it the Man Of Steel sequel was a cash grab and was as cynical as it could have been to double down on Man Of Steel's performances. It was an attempt to gild the lily to get maximum profit and it was a comparative failure. Despite the fact that it was essentially a free swing for the fence.

The reality is, Snyder took a hugely marketable movie and made less money from it than it should ever have taken. And in the end, Justice League's marketing caveat for way too many people was that it was made by Zack Snyder.
