15. Ollie Chews A Knife - Bring Her Back
Bring Her Back was one hell of a gnarly sophomore feature for the Brothers Philippou that categorically built upon their outstanding debut Talk to Me.
This film is a refreshingly nasty romp on the whole, and reaches its nauseating apex when Andy (Billy Barratt) attempts to bond with his foster sibling Oliver (Jonah Wren Phillips) by offering him some melon.
Oliver takes the melon slice along with the knife it's impaled on, and just as Andy goes to fetch a plate, Oliver starts chewing on the knife like he hasn't eaten in forever.
The Philippous spare no vile detail as we see Oliver's mouth get thoroughly torn up, much to Andy's disturbed horror when he finally turns around.
It's an inherently nightmarish idea and one elevated into the stratosphere of gut-wrenching terror thanks to excellent sound design, some disgustingly invasive close-ups of Oliver's wounded mouth, and two superb performances at the center of it all.
